Quid Pro Quo

We are imperfect people who make mistakes. Well at least I am. Some of those mistakes offend God. Sometimes my miscues offend others, and at times I’m the only one hurt by my screw-ups. Many mistakes and miscues produce h urts and wounds that can very quickly turn into lasting resentment, bitterness or anger, if we don’t deal with them, correctly. As believers we need to find it in our hearts to learn to forgive others and ourselves. CS Lewis wrote : “Everyone thinks forgiveness is a lovely idea until he has something to forgive.” Scripture urges us to receive God's forgiveness, and to be ready to extend it.     “… You can’t get forgiveness from God … without also forgiving others…” You will never forgive anyone more than God has already forgiven you, wrote pastor Max Lucado. Forgiveness is not excusing. It’s not pretending something didn’t happen. Real forgiving is to forget and move on…Blessings, Pastor Keith      #minmchurch #churchpearland

Discombobulated

Image
In the nursery rhyme about Humpty Dumpty, which dates back to the late eighteenth century in England, there is a story about an anthropomorphic egg that takes a tumble off a brick wall. He  becomes all discombobulated, the king’s men scramble to restore H.D. to no avail. The rest of Mr. Dumpty’s story is omelet like.   “…If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall…” In the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth he shares some truths that many twenty-first century churches and synagogues need today as much as the church in Corinth did two millennia ago. Be carful not to fall. What causes some churchgoers to fall? Bad choices, like sitting atop a tall a brick wall? Truth be told, all of us make hundreds of choices each day. Most have no right or wrong attached to them, they are just…choices. But when it comes to the things of God, choices can often come with more weight, you don’t want to get it wrong. Here’s my thought. Make y

God Uses Broken Vessels!

Image
A wise Rabbi once wrote, ...if an ordinary person makes use of a broken vessel, (like the chipped plate in my china cabinet) it is a shameful thing...but when the Holy One makes use of  broken vessels  - something special happens. God does not always look for the newest piece of china, the best résumé or the smartest person. Quite the contrary. Read the pages of Scripture and find that He often seeks the underachiever; the laughingstock of the “in crowd,” the person voted “least likely to succeed. When Paul wrote to the church at Philippi he said:  “… whatever I used to count as my greatest accomplishments, I’ve written them off as a loss…”   Paul understood that faith, supplied by God, is what motivated him to love others and charge ahead.  There are no limits to what God can do with someone who is broken. The prospects are endless - Adonai is near to the broken-hearted…Pastor Keith #minmchurch #churchpearland

Heart Scans

Image
According to the Mayo Clinic , heart scans, also known as coronary calcium scans, detect and provide pictures of your heart's coronary arteries. Doctors use heart scans to look for deposits in the coronary arteries that can narrow your arteries and increase your heart attack risk or show other problems before there are any obvious symptoms of heart disease. What a potential lifesaving piece of technology! Consider this lifesaver from the Old Testament : "…The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart...”         1 Samuel 16:7   Ask God to scan and search your heart and to show you if there’s any spiritual plaque or blockages that are clogging your ability to believe, experience, forgive and live. Our God is a very good cardiologist…Pastor Keith #minmchurch #churchpearland www.minm.church
