End of Times

Image
For centuries people have been fascinated and even fixated on the end of the world.  The Second Coming of Christ. Armageddon. The Final Judgment.  Many have tried, without success, to predict when all this will occur.  What are your thoughts about: ‘End Times'? Comment on our FB Page Writing to a young congregation of believers, at the church of Thessalonica, Paul seeks to answer some questions about:  Bereavement; Ignorance; Natural Curiosity; Mortality; The Resurrection and  the return of Christ. Intense Emotions & Our Decisions

Image
Emotions certainly play an important role in our decision-making process. Anxiety, for example, can keep you from making a poor choice; boredom can ignite a spark that leads you to follow your passion, your northern star, or to a decision of regret. An empathetic experience may produce emotional or spiritual clarity -    an ‘ Aha Moment’ A Missouri pastor and author r ecently tweeted: “When I begin to feel pessimistic, I remember that the world will be saved because God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world. This is not an excuse for irresponsibility or apathy, but an invitation to cooperate with the Savior of the world”.   I’m reminded of a couple verses from Proverbs where intense emotions can lead to either super-heady moments of lucidity or foolhardy decisions: “ Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go. He's the O

What Is Your Definition Of The Church?

Image
If you were to ask people what they think of when they hear the word church you would get many differing responses. A place? An organization?  T he church: A place of worship, the house of God.    Maybe a  cathedral, abbey, chapel or   basilica;   A megachurch or village church; A synagogue or mosque. An ecclesial community; A creed, faith or denomination… The Church is not to be found at the center of any left or right political world.     "We need to avoid the spiritual sickness of a church that is wrapped up in its own world: when a church becomes like this, it grows sick "        Pope Francis The Church is a gentler, kinder organism, a species of its own. It ought to confound both the left and right, while finding its identity from the center of God’s call, Christ's life and His kingdom now and yet to come.  Augustine of Hippo wrote:  He who does not have the church as his mother, does not have God as his father.      #MininstryinMotion   #pkes   Facebook   Twitter

Restoring Shalom. In Our Lifetime?

Image
From the very beginning, God has had a plan for a cohesive harmonious creation. The first humans lived completely integrated lives — they cared for one another and took care of God’s beautiful, perfect, creation. Complete harmony characterized humanity’s experiences with God. It was the means by which they maintained and expanded upon what the Scriptures refer to as “ shalom ”. This concept of well-being sounds so good, it sounds so right. Maybe you find the image idealistic, more of a wish than a reality — a daydream or an illusion. Our modern experience of peace, of shalom , in a broken world, is fleeting and seemingly infrequent … it can be very frustrating when sought after.  Our world is ever changing. For many, our fears about the future are “eclipsing our hopes.” Words such as “unprecedented” and “uncertain” punctuate nearly every news article; media reports that cross our desktops, scroll   across the bottom of the TV screen, all seemingly reinforcing a global pandemic, racial

Loving Our Neighbors Can Be Tricky

Image
The Apostle Matthew wrote, as Jesus quoted Deuteronomy and Leviticus, saying :   “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets”   ~Mt 22:37-40 Who Exactly is My Neighbor? We all have informal and some-times temporary relationships that God calls us to—our friends, our enemies, the people at work, that house down the street, strangers, the couple who lives next to us that we don’t get along with….at all. [sigh] Whoever you meet or see today that’s your neighbor. Really. Like it or not, it’s true. Tricky Neighbors. What's the best way to react to our neighbors, especially those who can be a little prickly, those who come off as, well, not very likable? Should we ignore them? Mind our own business? Many individuals are content to live in their homes without actua
