Helping Those Who Can't Help Themselves
“God helps those who help themselves”* is probably the most often quoted phrase that is not found in the Bible. The OT prophet wrote: "...What else does the Eternal ask of you; But to live justly and to love kindness and to walk with your True God in all humility?" Micah 6:8. There is no fine print here. God’s promise has no hidden language. No secret decoder ring is necessary. His message is simple - live justly, love kindness and walk with God in humility. And when necessary and in all modesty, confess, I need His hand in this journey called life! Because it takes courage and brave vulnerability to disclose that life is sometimes difficult, and even harder, so much harder, when done alone.
* This saying is usually attributed to Ben Franklin, but it actuality originated
from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled Discourses Concerning Government.
