Does God Treasure Our Tears? Do We?
“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.” -Washington Irving
Does God Treasure Our Tears? Do We?
I believe He does.
Tears are precious to our Creator. Whether they rise from the quiet ache of inward pain or spill over in the abundance of joy, they flow from the very heart He formed and knows so well.
Far from marking weakness, tears reveal a depth of feeling that strength alone cannot conceal. They speak what words often cannot, carrying the weight of sorrow, the sting of regret, the tenderness of compassion, and the fullness of great love.
These emotions are not incidental to life; they are woven into the very fabric of who we are. Each of us expresses them differently, yet tears remain a shared language of the soul—one our Father never overlooks, never dismisses, and never wastes.
Scripture offers us a glimpse of just how intimately God holds our tears:
“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle.” (1)
And in the promise of Revelation, we find the beautiful assurance that the One who knows every tear will one day wipe them all away:
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (2)
Perhaps the invitation is not simply to believe that God treasures our tears, but to learn to treasure them ourselves—not as signs of failure or weakness, but as reminders of our humanity, our capacity to love, and our need for grace.
For the God who formed our hearts is also the God who holds them...not one tear falls beyond the reach of His love.
Shalom…Pkes
