Stronger Because of Our Questions

Image
Questions are good. The marvelous thing about a good question is that it shapes our identity as much by the asking as it does by the answering. In the Bible there are many, many questions asked. It is difficult to give a precise number because of ancient punctuation differences — we can’t just pull out the Dead Sea Scrolls and count the question marks. But Bible scholars estimate   that there are approximately 3,300 questions in the Bible.  Join us this Wednesday March 24th @ 7pm  as we ask questions, of each other and of the Scriptures.   Zoom in from wherever you are as we create community together.   Until social distancing requirements loosen up, we are continuing to meet in weekly Zoom Gatherings.  If you would like a copy of this week’s Zoom link, email us at: office[@]minm.church   Instagram   Home   Office[at]minm.church   Facebook #MininstryinMotion   #pkes

Difficult Parts in the Bible

Image
In our faith walk, we are from time to time going to traverse some difficult parts of the Bible.   Some of these parts are going to be clothed in mystery;   Some in seeming secrecy;   Some will challenge our strength and some sections will leave us breathless gasping for air - what we read, the issues and topics, will seem quite surreal.   So let’s name and unpack some challenges, maybe specific issues that fuel your curiosity, challenge you, or maybe have impacted your faith walk, positively or negatively. Join us each Wednesday night at 7pm on Zoom as we Create community from wherever you are. Together we make our hearts a home — Praying. Learning. Sharing.   Until social distancing requirements loosen up, we are meeting in weekly Zoom Gatherings. A Cloud of Unknowing - Grief, Sorrow & Loss

Image
Many of us have, or will, experience something tragic, unexpected, coming at us like a thief in the night to steal our dreams, our hope and sometimes even our reverence. It's in this season we discover we are longer in Kansas, but in the land of OZ.  Wednesday February 24th @ 7pm; Where's God in our Grief, Sorrow and Loss? Where is He when we seem to need Him most?   Th is current pandemic pulls us into a profoundly new place, meeting on Zoom . As social distancing requirements loosen up, we hope our season on-line will come to an end soon.   Until it does, we are excited about the possibility of what God might do with our weekly Zoom Gatherings, a time of prayer and an interactive study. February 10th @ 7pm ..... Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? Th is current pandemic pulls us into a profoundly new place, meeting on Zoom .  As social distancing requirements loosen up, we hope our season on-line will come to an end soon.    Until it does, we are excited about the possibility of what God might do with our weekly Zoom Gatherings, Prayer and Study Time. Unified or Divided?

Image
God invites us to love. He asks each of us, who call upon His name, to   stand up for and to kneel down in humility to serve others.   Yes, I am called to be my brother’s . . . my neighbor’s . . . even my enemy’s keeper.   In the Genesis story of Cain and Abel, Cain cynically answers God by saying:   “Am I my brother’s keeper?”  Cain obviously didn’t think he was. He was being a wise guy.   Today he might have said, how the heck do I know - it’s not in my job description to keep track of him! Let’s be honest, there are plenty of days when just “keeping” our own life running is about all we feel we can handle. So when you look into the face of another, friend or not, what do you see?  Do you see the things that unite us, or the things that divide us?     Instagram   Home   Office[at]minm.church   Facebook   #MininstryinMotion   #pkes

What Breaks Your Heart?

Image
"We do not exist for ourselves", wrote Thomas Merton. At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we’ve accrued, or much of anything else. We’ll be judged by: I was hungry and you gave me something to eat:  Hungry not only for bread — but hungry for an embrace and for love; I was naked and you clothed me:  Naked not only for garments — but naked for dignity, respect and acceptance; I was homeless and you took me in:   Homeless not only for four walls with a roof — but homeless because of rejection and being dismissed . There is a void that exists in many of us. It nags at us. It’s to be purposeful - to make a difference. I’m completely convinced, true happiness and genuine significance, doesn’t come from finding yourself, but in losing yourself - by investing in someone else. I like what A W Tozer wrote: "The purpose of good works isn't to change us or save us; rather, it's the ...
