Et tu, Brute?  And you to, Brutus?  An old school, throwback quote from William Shakespeare , usually used to signify maxed-out and  unexpected betrayal. Human beings need to trust, but betrayal is a gross violation of precious trust. It can be a devastating. And, it can inflict physical, spiritual and psychological pain. The hurt and pain of betrayal is magnified especially when we feel exposed, when we feel vulnerable.  I like what Brené Brown wrote in her book The Gifts of Imperfection . “ … Shame, blame, disrespect, betrayal … damage the roots from which love grows. Love can only survive these injuries if they are acknowledged….” Are you able to acknowledge and name your betrayal and move towards forgiveness? Moving towards forgiveness invites us to be kind and gentle towards our betrayal pain. It’s also a time to ask God to help us learn more about ourself, about trust, and about the importance of being vulnerable, gracious, yet cautious.  #Seaso...

I think I’m an orderly guy. My wife might debate me on this point. But my ties hang and are sorted by colors. Black socks snuggle up with black, brown with brown. Like tools reside in the same tool chest drawers. I like having my proverbial ducks in a row, b ut it’s a rare life that remains orderly. How was your last journey through a season of chaos? Messy? Clear My Blurred Vision because I see people, but they look like trees—walking trees.  What does it take to see members of the kingdom of God clearly? Maybe it’s as simple as receiving a gracious tender touch from God . We’re kind’a like the blind man in this Gospel story. Though we’ve been touched by God, we still see men as trees - we can't appreciate our brothers rightly, as God made them, with all their virtues and even their short-comings. Why? My “stuff” My biases, my selfishness and prideful agendas take over, get in the way, and cloud and dim and distort my vision of my fellow man. In Bethsaida , some people brought a sightless man and begged Jesus to give him a healing touch…[Christ] laid hands on him, and asked, “Do you see anything?” The blind man looked up, saying: "I see men. They look like walking trees." Jesus touched his eyes again; and when the man looked up, he could see everything clearly.  Maybe we require a second touch; Jesus touch me again! #To...

We talk about grace as though we understand the term: - The mortgage company gives us a grace period.   - The seedy politician falls from grace, but wins re- election.   - We use the word as a name for churches, hospitals & baby  girls, and we say it as prayers before meals.   We talk as though we know what grace means, really? 31  Jesus told his followers, “Tonight you will all stumble in your faith on account of me... 32  But after I rise from the dead, I will go ahead of you  into Galilee.”   Mt 26:30-32 What a great illustration of grace. It’s as if Jesus said: I know all y’all are going to screw up, but I love ya anyway. And, I’ll see you in Galilee, I’m not going to forget or abandon you. This is God’s grace expressed and it isn’t the grace of mortal men. No, it's the glue for broken man... #MetroLifeChurch #minmchurch #GodsGrace

After the resurrection He walked with us and we thought:  “It felt like a fire burning in us…” Picture this : ...two disciples (not of the eleven) are traveling the seven miles from Jerusalem to Emmaus . As they walk along, they talk back and forth about the current events, all that has taken place in during recent days....A stranger catches up t o them, it's the risen Jesus, but for some reason they don’t recognize Him. Jesus asks, what are y'all talking about? They reply: It’s all about the man named Jesus of Nazareth... Good Friday sorrow has just been eclipsed by resurrection joy and these two guys are experiencing it first hand.   I wonder when in the story the light go on for these two thick-headed guys? Luke’s Gospel t ells us that when the three of them began to share a meal, when Christ took some bread, and thanked God, at that very moment, "open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him."
